Michael Longley became
€5,000 richer this weekend, thanks to the DLR Poetry Now award. His
collection A Hundred Doors (published by Cape Poetry) was recognized Saturday as the best single
volume of poems by an Irish poet published in the previous 12 months. The
award was presented at the Mountains to Sea book festival in Dún Laoghaire by
The Irish Times and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council (DLR).
The Wake Forest
Press published an American edition of A Hundred Doors in May 2011.
Another one of our
poets, John Montague, was shortlisted for the prize. His most recent collection
Speech Lessons was published this past April by the WFU Press (the competition
recognized the Gallery Press's edition).
Past WFU Press winners include Derek Mahon (2006, 2009) and Harry
Clifton (2008).
